I finished New Moan. It kinda dragged, but I guess at least they stuck close to the series that way? Joanne says she finished Breaking Dawn today, so we can finally moan about the end scene in front of her, lol. Such a cop out - if you spend thousands of pages setting up a scenario for bloodshed, tips on destruction, making a point of the easiest ways to be stronger etc etc and it all comes down to a battle of the minds ... don't you worry, I've already killed off one of my characters, put another two in coma's and another character will kick the bucket at some point.
And I'm basically writing one of those teen romance stories.
For Shame, Meyer, for shame.
By the by, I can't get into The Portrait Of Dorian Gray. Tried reading Revenge by Sharon Osbourne but it's a bit meh right now - is it her autobiography rewritten with characters instead? And obviously, by a shadow writer?
The Portrait of Dorian Grey is probably my favourite book - closely followed by The Far Away Tree by Enid Blyton. Odd mixture, no?
ReplyDeleteThe Twilight series kills me - I find the writing tedious! It took me forever and a day to get through Breaking Dawn. I didn't like it. Too many cliches. Did you pick up on the value of 'no sex before marriage'? My friend pointed it out to me after I finished it. Basically it's her fantasy haha.
I'm yet to see New Moon. Twilight irritated me enough. In your words - for shaaame Robert Pattinson, for shame! Making me sit through that twaddle!
I just need to sit and read the first few chapters to get where all the characters are at - I'm only on page 12 (and are Basil and Dorian gay? I've not seen the film yet, won't until I've read) so will have to grab maybe half hour of just reading.
ReplyDeleteI'd been told before I read that Meyer was big on abstinence, and the whole thing reeked of it. I'd take the bigger lesson from it though - even if the odds are minimal, you can still get pregnant first time (even if he has no blood flow to create an erection, sorry to be base) ... there's just so much wrong with it ... but yes, it's her fantasy, blatantly. Bella looks like her. Apparently she wanted Emily Browning from Lemony Snicket and Ed Westwick for Bella and Edward?
New Moon is slightly better, they got rid of Catherine Hardwick/the constant blue screen (worked in thirteen, and thirteen only, love). When you get used to the wolves and see Edward again it's like 'really, she's depressed over him?' - Rob has wonky nipples.
Oh, and thinking back to GoF, didn't Cedric make his entrance from jumping out a tree? Obviously his audition for Twilight, lolzlolz.
